LARGO - Indian Rocks Christian proved it's a team game Saturday night as the Golden Eagles defeated Tampa Prep 41-34 to win the Class 2A-District 9 girls basketball championship.

With the Terrapins closely guarding Courtney St. Louis, who was Friday's star, several other players stepped up to help gain the victory. Meredith Monti had six key baskets and a total of 15 points, and Kindal Farver nailed eight free throws. St. Louis had 11 points.

The Eagles went to a slowdown game with about 5 minutes left in the first half. They led 14-10 and tried to force Tampa Prep out of its zone defense.

The teams combined for six points in the second quarter.

"It's a version of the old four corners," Indian Rocks Christian coach Phil Farver said. "We did what we needed to do to win. We had not used that move recently. I feel good about the win tonight and we are glad to get a home game next week."
Indian Rocks (14-12) led most of the way, but when St. Louis left the game with four fouls and 2:15 remaining in the third quarter, things swung in Tampa Prep's direction. When the junior forward went to the bench, the Eagles led 22-12. The Terrapins cut the margin to 22-20 as the quarter ended, then took a 23-22 lead on Ayala Wasser's 3-pointer early in the last quarter.

Wasser ended with 13 points, and La Tora Lofgren had 10 for the Terrapins (9-11).

The teams had split their first two meetings this season.
Indian Rocks will host Fort Meade on Thursday in the regional quarterfinals, while Tampa Prep will travel to Lakeland Christian.
