Behind an unknown Tom Brady and a turnover-producing defense, the Patriots upset the St. Louis Rams 20-17 on a last-second 48-yard field goal by Adam Vinatieri to win their first Super Bowl.
Vinatieri kicked another last-second field goal - this time a 41-yarder with four seconds left - to give the Patriots a 32-29 comeback victory against the Carolina Panthers.
The Patriots joined the Dallas Cowboys as the only teams to win three Super Bowls in a four-year span when New England defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21.
The Patriots will attempt to make NFL history today by finishing 19-0. They also are attempting to win their fourth Super Bowl in seven seasons.
