TALLAHASSEE - Florida State President T.K. Wetherell will introduce Randy Spetman as FSU's new athletic director today.
Spetman is the athletic director at Utah State, where he has headed the athletic program since 2004. Prior to that, Spetman was AD at the Air Force Academy for more than eight years.
Neither Spetman nor Wetherell could be reached for comment Sunday. FSU has a news conference set for today.
Utah State president Stan L. Albrecht declined to discuss the status of Spetman, who attended a dedication ceremony at Utah State on Saturday after interviewing for the FSU job Friday afternoon. "I'm not at liberty to comment on that," Albrecht said. "I do understand Florida State will hold a press conference today."
Utah State booster Josh Low said Spetman made a difference at Utah State, where he oversaw an athletic department with a budget around $17 million. FSU's budget is more than $45 million. "He goes above and beyond," Low said. "At Utah State, he obviously doesn't get as much funding as big schools like Florida State. He does the best with what he has."
FSU also interviewed current Georgia Tech associate AD Wayne Hogan, Detroit Lions executive Martin Mayhew, and former Florida Marlins president Don Smiley.
