TAMPA - A 17-year-old girl stole a Hillsborough County deputy's gun and Taser from a closet, deputies say.
Deputies arrested Essence J. Williams about 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Tampa.
Williams, a Tampa resident, was charged with armed trespassing, grand theft of a firearm and third-degree grand theft after the Jan. 20 incident, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
Williams was visiting a friend whose mother is a deputy, Carter said. The deputy had her gun belt in the closet, and Williams took the Taser and gun, Carter said.
Williams also was charged with child neglect, Carter said. The state attorney's office couldn't discuss that charge because Williams is a juvenile.
She remained in Orient Road Jail on Monday. Her bail was set at $8,000.
