TAMPA — Hillsborough County sheriff's detectives want to talk to a woman they believe knew Timothy "Chip" Chipley. The woman lives in the Carrollwood apartment complex where his body was found last week, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said today.
The body of Chipley, 34, was found in a pond last week in the Countrywood Apartments complex. Authorities confirmed on Monday that Chipley is a homicide victim but have not released the cause of death.
"Detectives have developed information that [Chipley] has a female friend that resides at the Countrywood Apartments," Carter said. "Investigators would like to speak with her."
The woman's identity is not known, Carter said.
The pond at the Countrywood Apartments is less than a mile from O'Brien's Irish Pub, where Chipley last was seen on Jan. 26 with friends. He opted to remain behind when they left. Chipley lived at 10228 N. Oakleaf Ave., also in Carrollwood.
Chipley studied martial arts and had trained for his "trip of a lifetime" to Thailand for further study, friends said. He obtained a passport and airline ticket months earlier and packed a week in advance for the flight that left without him Wednesday morning.
Chipley was a regular at the pub. Bar patrons and friends had not seen nor heard from him since about 3 a.m. Jan. 27, when he paid his tab and walked out the door.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS.
