TAMPA - Forget what's on cable; a real-life police search is under way this morning.
Tampa police are looking for a man who abandoned five stolen plasma televisions and a stolen Dodge Durango shortly after 6 a.m. at North Howard Avenue and West La Salle Street.
About 5:55 a.m., an officer responding to a burglar alarm at the Rent-A-Center in the Britton Plaza shopping mall found a person who had seen two men loading the televisions into a dark-colored Durango, police said.
Police spotted a vehicle matching that description at the McDonald's at West Kennedy Boulevard and South Edison Avenue. When the occupants saw the officer, they drove off at high speed, police said.
That officer did not pursue them. Another officer soon saw the sport utility vehicle drive into a construction site at North Howard Avenue and West La Salle Street.
Two men jumped out and ran. Police chased them and caught one man.
Police did not release the name of the arrested man because officers are still working the search. Police also did not provide a description of the other man.
