PLANT CITY - A 28-year-old Dover man was killed Tuesday night when the driver of the car he was riding in ran a red traffic light and struck another vehicle at State Road 39 and Trapnell Road, officials said.
Jose Arriaga-Garcia died at the scene, Plant City police said.
Police say Arriaga-Garcia was a passenger in a car being driven south on S.R. 39 by Mara Ruiz, 20, of Plant City. As Ruiz approached Trapnell Road about 10 p.m. Tuesday, she ran the red light and collided with a vehicle traveling east on Trapnell driven by William Barlow, 43, of Plant City, police said.
Ruiz and Barlow were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Barlow's teenage son, who was in the car with his father, was not injured, police said. The teen's name and age were not immediately available.
The accident is under investigation.
