Tampa Men Top Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE - After gaining its first top-25 mention since 2002, the University of Tampa men's basketball team defended its No. 17 ranking with a 74-66 victory against Nova Southeastern University.

The sixth straight win moves the Spartans to 15-4 overall and 8-2 in Sunshine State Conference play, while the Sharks drop to 9-11 and 4-6.

Leading 69-66 with 2:46 left, Tampa scored five unanswered points in the final 1:58 to take the crucial SSC road victory.

Johnathan Ball led a group of six Spartans in double figures as he scored a team-high 17 points. Jeremy Black and Chris King added 16 apiece while Rashad Callaway had 10. Black also led UT with 13 rebounds while Callaway had a team-high six assists.

ROLLINS 80, SAINT LEO 58: Saint Leo (10-10, 3-6 SSC) got a game-high 23 points from sophomore Jordan Prais, but four Rollins players scored in double figures to lead the host Tars (17-3, 6-3) to a wire-to-wire victory.
Prais also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. Sophomore Brandon Powell added 11 points off the bench for the Lions.
Kevin Hogan led Rollins with 21 points.

Tampa Women Win, Tied For First In SSC

FORT LAUDERDALE - The University of Tampa women's basketball team moved into a first-place tie atop the Sunshine State Conference standings with a 61-58 victory against Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night. The Spartans are 16-4 overall and 8-2 in the SSC while the Sharks fall to 15-7 and 8-2.

DeShaydia Mackey led UT with 15 points and added four steals. Sheena Walton had 12 points and six blocked shots. Erica Woodard led Tampa with eight rebounds.

Nova Southeastern scored the first 11 of the game, and led the entire first half, taking a 35-24 lead into halftime.

The second half proved to be a reversal of the first as Tampa began the half on a 14-2 run in less than seven minutes to take a 38-37 lead.

ROLLINS 57, SAINT LEO 42: Rollins senior guard Jennifer Musgrove just missed a triple-double - 14 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and nine assists - to lead the host Tars (12-8, 3-7 SSC) past Saint Leo (9-11, 2-7).
Saint Leo was led by senior guard Amanda Holloway, who had 14 points.

Rollins used hot shooting to offset a total of 28 turnovers, as the Tars shot 45.8 percent (22 of 48) from the floor for the game, including 7-for-16 (43.8 percent) from beyond the 3-point line.
