TARPON SPRINGS - A Tarpon Springs police officer surrendered today to face charges of prescription fraud, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Susan Gorman last year visited several doctors to acquire painkiller prescriptions but didn't tell them she already had several such prescriptions, the FLDE reported.
The charge against her — withholding information from a practitioner — is commonly called "doctor shopping." It is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
Gorman made visits to five doctors from April to August and obtained prescriptions for hydrocodone and oxycodone with a total of about 600 pills, the FDLE said.
Gorman turned herself in at the Pinellas County Jail. She was released on $5,000 bail and is on unpaid administrative leave.
