ST. PETERSBURG - In yet another incident of violence at the downtown retail and entertainment complex, an 18-year-old Largo man was robbed at gunpoint in the parking garage at BayWalk early this morning, police say.
About 2:40 a.m., after having left a bar, the victim was standing outside his Ford Explorer on the garage's second floor when he was approached by two people, one of whom pulled out a handgun and pointed it at his head, said St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman George Kajtsa.
He was told to hand over his keys, wallet and cell phone, Kajtsa said. After he did so, the robbers left, Kajtsa said. The victim then lay down in the back seat of the sport utility vehicle for an undetermined time, hiding, Kajtsa said.
He then walked to BayWalk, asked a passerby if he could use their cell phone and called 911, Kajtsa said.
The Tribune does not identify victims of crimes such as this when the criminals have not been apprehended.
On Christmas evening, the BayWalk area was the scene of several incidents, including a crowd stampeding for money and a brawl involving teenage girls. A few blocks away that night, a man was shot in the leg, St. Petersburg police said.
