Regarding "Troubled Byrd Alzheimer's Center Should Be Taken Over By USF" (Our Opinion, Feb. 7):
The Johnnie B. Byrd Sr. Alzheimer's Institute is a white elephant. The entire time they were building that facility, I kept wondering, "Why?"
The University of South Florida has a wonderful existing facility that provides patient care and research in the areas of gerontology and Alzheimer's, namely, the USF Alzheimer's and Gerontology Center. Why the duplication - at great expense to boot?
Because the Byrd facility is already built, why not combine the two facilities to assist patients and to provide the crucial research to eliminate this dreadful disease?
