ORLANDO - The Gulf Buccaneers (19-10) came into the Hornets Nest at Orlando Bishop Moore (24-4) on Thursday night, and finished their season with a stinging 55-28 loss that will last awhile.
The Hornets of Bishop Moore came out with 1-3-1 press and stopped the Bucs throughout the entire game, completely throwing off Gulf's offensive rhythm.
In the first half alone, the Bucs accounted for 15 turnovers. Gulf ended the game with a total of 20 turnovers. From the free-throw line, the Bucs went 4-for-8, and made only 11 out of their 38 shots for the night.
Gulf coach Mike Quarto knew that Bishop Moore had been to the state Final Four three years in a row, and he knew his team was in for a rough night.
"We've tried to prepare ourselves mentally," Quarto said during pre-game, "as well as on the basketball court."
Junior Jennifer George helped lead the Hornets with 16 points.
Senior Jordan Schulman scored eight points for the Bucs.Freshman Nicole Adams scored nine of the Bucs' 28 points and went 3-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Things appeared to be picking up in the fourth quarter, but came to a sudden halt with a flagrant foul by Gulf's Colleen McAvlliffe on Bishop Moore's Erin Murphy.
