BRADENTON - A Sarasota woman was carjacked by a man who had been begging her for money outside a Bradenton Home Depot this morning, Manatee County deputies say.
Arminda H. DeCastillo, 38, was at a newspaper rack about 4:15 a.m. when a man approached her and asked for money, a sheriff's office release states. She gave him change but got nervous and got back into the driver's side of her 2007 silver Hyundai Elantra.
The man pulled her from the car and struck her in the left leg with an unknown object, according to the release. He drove off with her car.
DeCastillo wasn't injured.
The man, who is white with curly gray hair, wore a black shirt during the carjacking, the release states. He is 5-foot-9, weighs 215 pounds and has squinty eyes.
