TAMPA - Two children on the way to school were struck by vehicles in Hillsborough County this morning, deputies say.
Neither child faces life-threatening injuries.
The first incident occurred at 7:45 a.m. at Sam Allen Road and Sam Allen Oaks Circle while a 7-year-old boy waited for a bus to Cork Elementary School.
As the bus slowed to stop, Charles Ray ran east across Sam Allen Road, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office release says. He was struck by a Ford sport utility vehicle driven by 54-year-old Patricia Weber of Plant City.
Ray was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where he is in stable condition, deputies say.
No charges have been filed at this time, according to the release. An investigation is ongoing.
The second incident occurred at 8:24 a.m. at 109 Kilgore Road when an 11-year-old girl walked to a school bus stop. The bus was heading to Turkey Creek Middle School.
The girl, Jessiny Santos, was struck by a pickup backing up on a private drive, the release says. The truck's rear bumper struck her, knocking her down and injuring her knee.
Santos was taken to South Florida Baptist Hospital.
The truck's driver, 40-year-old John W. Mays, lives in Plant City.
No charges have been filed at this time, deputies say. An investigation is ongoing.
