LAKEWOOD RANCH - Three people were arrested on Saturday after using their jobs as newspaper carriers to burglarize vehicles in gated communities, Manatee County Sheriff's Office said.
Mena Israel, 20, Manuel Ramirez, 16, and Tena Yesenia, 15, were charged with two counts of burglary of an auto. There are other charges pending. The three are gang members, deputies said.
They were seen at 4 a.m. on Saturday breaking into a vehicle in the area of 6234 White Clover Circle and Holy Bush Terrace. A deputy spotted a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle – with two males and a female – was stopped several miles away. One of the suspects was bleeding from his forearm and hands. Several items in the car were linked to the burglaries at White Clover, deputies said.
They were able to get in the gated communities by working as newspaper carriers.
Israel was released from prison in May. He served a sentence related to grand theft auto and vehicle burglaries.
