WESLEY CHAPEL - Pasco County sheriff's deputies arrested two people Saturday on grand theft and burglary charges after an early-morning traffic stop.
Osiel Lugo, 18, of 2704 Waver St., Plant City, was arrested at 3:30 a.m. after a deputy stopped the gold Toyota he was driving on a largely unoccupied section of Meadow Pointe, just off Mansfield Boulevard.
Lugo was stopped because the car didn't have a visible license plate, deputies said. When the deputy first tried to stop the car, Lugo kept going until he reached the end of Cravenmoor Drive, a dead-end road in a section of Meadow Pointe just north of the Hillsborough County line.
Lugo had a passenger, a 15-year-old girl. The two told the deputy they had stolen the car from the Pebble Creek section of Tampa and had been involved in four burglaries in the Tampa area, deputies said.
An inspection of the car turned up burglary tools, an arrest report said.
Lugo was arrested on charges of grand theft of a vehicle, fleeing to elude, driving with a suspended license and possession of burglary tools. He was being held Sunday in Land O' Lakes Jail with bail set at $10,400.
The juvenile riding with Lugo was released without bail.
