STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State scored the first 20 points of the game and the University of Florida women's basketball team never recovered, falling 83-71 to the Bulldogs on Sunday at Humphrey Coliseum.
Florida (15-9, 4-5 Southeastern Conference) tried to rally with an 11-2 run midway through the second half and whittled a large deficit to 13 points with 3:57 remaining. But MSU (15-9, 3-6 SEC) answered every Gator score with one of its own over the next three minutes and prevented the comeback effort.
Sophomore Jennifer Mossor scored a career-high 20 points for Florida. Marshae Dotson scored 10 points and became the 20th UF player to score 1,000 points.
Seminoles Routed By Cavaliers, 77-58
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior point guard Sharnee Zoll dished out nine assists, including the 700th of her career, to lead Virginia to a 77-58 victory against Florida State.
Zoll, who is chasing the all-time Virginia and Atlantic Coast Conference record for career assists, became just the third league player in history to surpass the 700-assist mark. With 707, she is now 22 away from tying former UVa great Dawn Staley's record of 729.
Lyndra Littles led the Cavaliers (18-6, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) with 23 points.
Florida State (15-9, 5-4) jumped out to a 9-0 lead, but Virginia rallied and took its first lead of the game on a layup by Littles at the 6:28 mark. From there, the teams traded baskets and FSU held a 32-31 advantage at halftime.
NORTH CAROLINA 75, GEORGIA TECH 61: Rashanda McCants had 19 points and Erlana Larkins added 18 points as No. 3 North Carolina beat Georgia Tech.
Despite 27 turnovers, North Carolina (22-2, 9-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) extended its winning streak to 12 against the Yellow Jackets, dating to 2002.
Georgia Tech (18-6, 5-5), off to its best start in 30 years, has lost all five of its games against Top 25 teams this season.
LSU 63, GEORGIA 57: Sylvia Fowles had 19 points and 15 rebounds to help eighth-ranked LSU stretch its winning streak to 11 games.
Quianna Chaney and RaShonta LeBlanc each scored 14 points for LSU (20-3, 9-0 Southeastern Conference). Angel Robinson had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Georgia (17-7, 4-5), which has lost four of five games and now is in danger of sliding out of the Top 25.
DUKE 71, WAKE FOREST 36: Carrem Gay scored a game-high 15 points, and No. 11 Duke opened with a 12-0 run en route to beating Wake Forest. The Blue Devils (18-6, 7-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) held Wake Forest (14-12, 1-10) scoreless for more than 7 minutes.
OLD DOMINION 83, WILLIAM & MARY 68: Shahida Williams had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead No. 13 Old Dominion (20-3, 11-0) past William & Mary (11-12, 5-6) in a Colonial Athletic Association game.
GEORGE WASHINGTON 78, RICHMOND 51: Jessica Adair scored 27 points to lead No. 14 George Washington (19-4, 7-1 Atlantic 10) past Richmond (11-12, 4-4).
NOTRE DAME 81, PITTSBURGH 66: Tulyah Gaines scored 13 points, and 16th-ranked Notre Dame held No. 15 Pittsburgh to 31 percent shooting.
The Irish (18-5, 6-3 Big East) improved to 17-1 all-time against the Panthers (18-5, 8-2), with the lone loss coming last season at Pittsburgh.
OKLAHOMA STATE 92, NEBRASKA 81: Andrea Riley scored 24 points and Shaunte Smith added 20, leading No. 17 Oklahoma State (19-3, 7-2) past Nebraska (17-7, 6-4) in a Big 12 game.
OHIO STATE 80, WISCONSIN 77: Marscilla Packer scored 23 points and Jantel Lavender added 22 as No. 19 Ohio State beat Wisconsin.
The Badgers (11-11, 4-8 Big Ten) led for most of the game before Ohio State (18-6, 9-4) rattled off a 25-6 run to take a 56-50 lead.
WYOMING 70, NEW MEXICO 55: Jodi Bolerjack scored 17 points to lead No. 22 Wyoming (19-3, 7-2) past New Mexico (12-10, 4-5) in a Mountain West game.
SYRACUSE 70, MARQUETTE 67: Freshman guard Erica Morrow scored a season-high 24 points as No. 23 Syracuse held off Marquette.
Syracuse (18-4, 6-3 Big East), coming off a loss at Georgetown, overcame a sloppy start and held off a late challenge by Marquette (13-10, 5-5) to go to 10-1 at home.
LOUISVILLE 79, DePAUL 68: Angel McCoughtry scored 41 points and had nine rebounds to lead Louisville (16-7, 5-5) past No. 25 DePaul (16-7, 5-5) in a Big East game.
