TAMPA - A Tampa woman driving a 2000 Ford Expedition tried to run over a man on a customized tricycle Sunday, police say.
The woman then fired a gun at him, the tricyclist told police.
Police arrested Kimberly M. Haugh, 39, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
"The victim was in the suspect's front yard talking to her son when she came out and started yelling at him," Tampa Police Department spokeswoman Laura McElroy said. The victim "took off on his tricycle, and a short time later the suspect tried to run him over in her SUV at a high rate of speed. The victim was obviously in fear of his life. He jumped off the tricycle, and just seconds after, she ran over the bike. Then she turned around and ran over it again."
The man, 21-year-old Tyrone Molina, jumped over a fence to get away, McElroy said. He thought Haugh had left and he came back over the fence.
Then she fired a gun at him twice, McElroy said he told police.
Molina jumped into another yard and yelled for a homeowner to call for help.
Haugh's motivation for chasing and shooting at Molina was unclear in a police report. An investigation is ongoing, McElroy said.
Molina had minor injuries to his left middle finger but refused treatment after the incident at West Bay and South Lois avenues, a criminal arrest affidavit states.
It's not immediately clear in the report how much damage there was to the yellow tricycle, but its rear wheels were broken, McElroy said.
Haugh, of 4006 W. Montgomery Trail, was charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault. Additional charges are pending, McElroy said.
Haugh remained in Orient Road Jail today. Her bail was set at $15,000.
