LARGO - To save money, the owner of a gas station has kept the lights off when the business isn't open, but now that thieves have broken in under the cover of darkness, he has changed his mind, the manager of the gas station says.
Someone broke into the BP gas station at 5545 Ulmerton Road this morning, ransacked the cashier area and stole $300, police and the manager said. The owner had purchased the business six weeks ago and was trying to save money by keeping the interior and exterior lights off, said Lt. Mike Loux of the Largo Police Department.
Barjas Marshed, the manager, said he talked to the owner after the theft and now will keep the lights on.
