Regarding "Blessing Amid Tragedy" (Other Views, Feb. 11) and "Flirting With Flight At TIA: Dog Survives 6-Story Fall" (front page, Feb. 8):
Friends and I were recently musing on how mostly unpleasant stories make it into the news. It compares well to the daily soap opera where well-intentioned, happy and unambiguous lives have no place for our amusement.
Along come two miracles which capture our hearts and are the most e-mailed stories of the week - the baby, Kyson, who survives a tornado in Tennessee, and the dog, Jet, who survives his plunge off of the garage at Tampa International Airport. It's amazing evidence of the deep-spirited goodness of our people beyond the headlines of thugs, abusers and other criminality.
As Booker T. Washington stated, "There are two ways of exerting one's strength; one is pushing down, the other is pulling up." I believe pulling up defines the very nature of this great nation.
