PORT RICHEY - More than 140 skaters of all ages, representing 17 figure skating clubs, will be in town with their coaches and family for a roller skating competition this weekend.
Florida Skating Academy - in cooperation with the Spinnations Skating Center - will hold its sixth annual Presidents Day Invitational. Local academy members are putting the finishing touches on their routines for the competition.
U.S. bronze medalist Caroline Bell, 14, of New Port Richey, will compete in figure skating and the junior world-class international solo. Port Richey newcomers Nicole Ogloza, Jennie Kratzer, Kaitlyn Shaw and Tara Walter also will perform.
A dozen youngsters from Spinnations skating classes also will test themselves at their first competition.
After official practice Friday, doors open at 6:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The first day of competition ends at 10 p.m. and the invitational concludes at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The junior and senior world-class singles and pairs short programs are scheduled for Saturday with the long programs that evening and on Sunday. The adult dance divisions and youth events are Saturday and Sunday. For a schedule, go online to www. floridaskatingacademy.com.
General admission is $5 each day. The food concession will offer daily specials.
