Rotary Club Of Trinity Plans 10th Anniversary Celebration

Published: February 13, 2008

TRINITY - The Rotary Club of Trinity will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a big splash and a few surprises Saturday.

A program about the club's roots and evolution will be beamed on a projection screen during the dinner, then guests will hit the dance floor.

"In Trinity, everything we do is for children," club president Carol Kinnard said.

"That's part of our mission statement."

Thanks to a grant and matching funds from the Pasco Education Foundation, Trinity Rotary will bring Radio Disney programs to area schools to promote reading.

The first Radio Disney event will be Feb. 22 at Richey Elementary School, with other appearances in the works for Seven Springs and Hudson elementary schools.

Commercials will promote the education foundation and Trinity Rotary.

But for one night Saturday, Trinity Rotarians and guests can relax and reflect on their accomplishments.

The club actually was chartered in 1997 as part of District 6950, but members got so busy last year that the anniversary celebration was delayed.

About 50 members meet every Friday at 12:15 p.m. at Heritage Springs Country Club, 11345 Robert Trent Jones Parkway.

Past presidents have included Sandy Barley, John Karel, Maryellen Adams, Laurel Robinson, Ann Addino, Rich Balkcom and Kenneth Martin.

Major events last year included the annual Black-Tie Dinner Auction, Art Auction and Al Arzu Memorial Golf Tournament.

The club also has focused its resources on:

•Helping Make A Wish Foundation provide a therapy horse and send a child and family to Walt Disney World.

•Hosting exchange groups from New Zealand.

•Supporting Polio Plus Partners, which strives to eradicate the disease worldwide, plus Junior Achievement of Pasco County and the Boys & Girls Club of Pasco County.

•Working with the Genesis Preparatory School's Interact club at the Salvation Army soup kitchen on Friday afternoons.

•Helping an orphanage recover from a tsunami.

•Sponsoring a Jaguarific Award at Seven Springs Middle School.

•Spending time at and presenting a scholarship at PACE Center for Girls.

•Collecting Operation Shoebox items for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

•Giving 45 turkeys at Thanksgiving to families from Seven Springs Elementary.

•Donating $10,000 to the Youth and Family Alternatives RAP House.
