ST. PETE BEACH - A break in a 4-inch water main was found about noon today, setting in motion a 48-hour mandatory boil-water edict for some Pinellas County Utilities customers.
The break occurred at 75th Avenue and Gulf Boulevard, according to utilities officials. Water has been disconnected at some junctures so repairmen can tend to the broken pipe, officials said.
Homes and businesses near the intersection are affected, utilities officials said. People are being notified through the use of door hangers, and they will be told, again through door hangers, when their water is OK.
Roughly 100 people will be affected, said Steve Soltau, a repair crew manager.
