Tampa Man Jailed After Pellet Hits Detective's Vehicle

TAMPA - A 20-year-old man fired an air rifle at an unmarked Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office vehicle, striking its windshield, deputies say.

Wei Liu was arrested at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday at Sheldon Road and Waters Avenue.

The pellet didn't do any damage, but it could have startled the detective driving the Chevrolet and caused a serious crash, a criminal arrest affidavit states.

Liu, of 6210 Sheldon Road, was charged with shooting a deadly missile at an unoccupied vehicle.

He was in Orient Road Jail this morning. His bail was set at $7,500.
