TAMPA - A Seminole Elementary School fourth-grader was arrested Tuesday after he brought a pocket knife to school, a school district spokeswoman said today.
"The defendant stated that he had been picked on at school by other students," a Tampa police report says. "It bothered him to the point that when his friend gave him a knife, he decided to take it to school to intimidate the students into leaving him alone. He believed that just displaying the knife would scare them enough to get them to leave him alone."
When confronted by a teacher, the report says, the 10-year-old gave her the knife.
The student also was disciplined administratively, district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said.
In a separate incident this week, an 11-year-old Seminole student had a clear plastic toy gun in school, Cobbe said. That student wasn't arrested but was disciplined administratively.
