Local Hero Emerges From Tragedy

Regarding "Accident Witness Eases Family's Pain" (Metro, Feb. 9):
Haunted by the terrible crash as it played out before his eyes, Keith Johnson went into action to raise the money for Monica Demarco's funeral expenses.
Johnson felt he couldn't leave the crash site until her body was recovered. Distraught by what he witnessed, he took it upon himself to help pay the expenses, and accompany the grieving family through the funeral arrangements at Serenity Meadows in Riverview. It was truly an effort of love and compassion you don't see every day.
The Tampa Bay region is fortunate to have generous benefactors such as George Steinbrenner, Jim Shimberg and Olin Mott, to name a few. I feel Keith Johnson deserves to be on our list of local heroes.
