Product: Bain de-luxe Aloe Vera & Glycerin Foaming Body Scrub — Lavender; $5.99 at drugstore.com (search for "de-luxe") and www.truscents.com>
It's winter and you're wishing your dry, ashy skin gone. A body scrub should do the trick.
We tried Bain de~luxe foaming body scrub, which promises to sooth with lavender as it sloughs away dead skin, the leading cause of dryness. The product is promoted as a "gentle body wash base of soothing aloe and vegetable glycerin … blended with apricot seed powder to leave the skin refreshed, renewed and hydrated."
Gentle? Hmmm. The apricot seed in this product made for a large, rough scrub. With all that grit, you'd expect to slough away a brighter, softer you. It did scrub the hands raw, but dryer body parts were only moderately buffed. It's best to apply with a washcloth or loofah to avoid irritation. When tested on the driest parts of the legs and arms, the skin still felt a little dry afterward.
Another downside: The grit was a magnet to the shower walls and tub, and created a bit of a mess. Not quite the "remarkable spa treatment experience that you can do at home" described on www.Truscents.com.
The 17-ounce bottle could have been a great value — if it weren't for the mediocre results. For serious skin rejuvenation, we recommend a sugar or salt scrub.
