BRADENTON - Citrus Park Christian's season came to a quiet end Thursday night when it lost to Bradenton Christian, 98-31, in a boys basketball Class 1A-Region 3 quarterfinal at Panther Gymnasium.
Citrus Park (7-16) wasn't given much of a chance entering the game, and Coach Juan Rivera said he told his players to "just have fun" against the powerful Panthers.
The Panthers (24-4) opened the game in a full-court press and never let up.
Bradenton Christian grabbed an early 8-0 lead on four layups before Pierre Komandur broke the ice for Citrus Park with 5:20 left in the first quarter, draining a 3-pointer.
Renaud Komandur scored a layup one possession later, actually cutting Bradenton Christian's lead in half, 10-5, with 4:55 left in the first quarter.
But that was it. Bradenton Christian went on a 17-0 run to basically put the game away. After opening up a 27-6 first-quarter lead, the Panthers scored 34 points in the second quarter to take a 63-16 lead into halftime and trigger a running clock in the second half.
Pierre Komandur led Citrus Park with 13 points.
Bradenton Christian used its bench liberally and spread its scoring among 11 players. Three of them - Cole Hudson, Joseph Wood and Daniel Magley -cracked double figures, scoring 16, 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Bradenton Christian will face either Sarasota Christian or St. Petersburg Canterbury in the semifinals on Tuesday.
