67-Year-Old Fights Off Would-Be Robbers

PALMETTO - A 67-year-old man fought off five young men who tried to rob him last night, authorities said.
The attempted armed robbery happened shortly before 6 p.m. at 100 10th St. W., according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Malchijah Buckley, of 800 16th St. E., was struck with a rock before fighting with the men as they attempted to rob him with a firearm, the sheriff's office said. The men eventually ran away. A search by authorities turned up no suspects.
Buckley suffered a minor cut to the back of his head, but refused treatment.
