Regarding "I'm In Love And Don't Tell Me Differently" (Other Views, Feb. 14):
Being in love and loving would seem to be the same, but there is a difference. The state of being "in love" generates excitement and a heightened sense of one's self, as well as that of the beloved. Emotions run fairly high. This state of being is generally transitory.
Loving, however, is as much an act of the will as of the emotions, is steadier and longer lasting and often calls for self-abnegation. Each "state" teaches something.
I agree heartily with Christine Kegel's final statement: "... Don't underestimate the power of love at any age." Whether young or old, almost everyone responds to the warm and sensitive caring which respects and honors the uniqueness of another, and seeks that person's welfare.
