ORLANDO - A smaller, cheaper SunPass device will become available this summer for drivers who want to pay tolls in advance and use the pass-through toll lanes on Florida's Turnpike and other toll highways.
State officials say the SunPass Mini will be about the size of a credit card. It will cost $4.95 instead of $25 for the current SunPass transponder. The larger ones will still work. The new one should be available in July.
The smaller device won't be able to be transferred from one car to another, though. If someone tries to take it off a car, it will break.
Turnpike officials have not yet set the minimum balance for the device. Officials hope to find a way for users to pay through a debit card system.
