Regarding "Penniless Man Returns $100 Find" (front page, Feb. 15):
I want to thank The Tampa Tribune for placing this story on the front page. As the main headline that day was about a tragedy in Illinois, this local story of an honest man and a teenager who was brought up right in this day is the real news. We would love to read about this news more often.
Thanks to your story, we have become aware of an honest charity and, just as importantly, honest founders who maintain their mission to the community.
I wasn't aware of the Daystar Mission until now, but as a result will certainly remember them and the good work they do for our surrounding communities' needy. I have several boxes of clothes and household items I have held on to for too long and will be making a trip to the mission to donate.
Amanda Zapico's selflessness not only made Bill Green beam with pride, but a community as well. Her generosity and maturity should be benchmarks for teenagers and even some adults. And as for Green, he is far from penniless, even if he doesn't have money. He has more character and morals than money can buy.
