TAMPA - Traffic heading from Pinellas County into Tampa along Interstate 275 frequently jams but drivers will encounter more trouble through the end of the year.
Monday, workers finished a barrier wall on northbound Interstate 275 between the Howard and Armenia avenues entrance ramp and the Ashley Drive/Scott Street exit to downtown.
The wall eliminated most of the lane used by traffic from Howard and Armenia to merge as well as used as an exit for drivers heading downtown. Three through lanes remain open.
The barrier wall will stay in place through 2008, said Kris Carson, spokeswoman for the Department of Transportation.
The delays may ease as drivers get used to merging in a shorter distance, Carson said.
The work is part of a massive project that will convert northbound I-275 from Himes Avenue to the Hillsborough River from three lanes to four.
Work on southbound lanes will be done later.
