MANATEE COUNTY — A man accused of having a longtime sexual relationship with his biological daughter, even having two children with her, faces 12 additional counts of incest.
Michael A. Mills, 46, is being held at the county jail with bail set at $100,000. Each count of incest is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Mills was arrested last week.
Authorities tacked on the additional incest charges this week for each time Mills reportedly had sex with his daughter, who is 24 now. The reported victim, Tammie Mills, told the Herald-Tribune that the sex with her father was consensual.
The sheriff's child protective services unit has custody of Tammie Mills' daughters, ages 6 and 2.
Mills and her father considered themselves husband-and-wife but they were not legally married. Tammie Mills said she planned to tell her daughters about their father when they grew up.
Authorities say there is an open sex crime investigation against Michael Mills in Levy County, where he and his daughter lived when she moved in as a teenager. Mills could face charges there, sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said today.
