MELBOURNE - Early voting has begun in the special election to replace former state Rep. Bob Allen.
The Republican from Merritt Island resigned after being convicted of agreeing to pay $20 to perform oral sex on an undercover police officer in a men's bathroom. He maintains his innocence.
Allen resigned in November after serving in the Legislature since 2001. He represented parts of Brevard and Orange counties.
Vying to replace him are Cocoa Beach Commissioner Tony Sasso, a Democrat, and Merritt Island businessman Sean Campbell, a Republican. Also on the ballot is Jerry Vadis Maynard of Titusville, who is running with no party affiliation.
The general election is Feb. 26.
