TAMPA -- Before Deputy Charlette Marshall-Jones became infamous for dumping a prisoner from his wheelchair at Orient Road Jail, she appeared in a Tampa Tribune video explaining the booking process at the jail to reporter Richard Mullins.
In it she characterizes some days as being like "Walt Disney World" in the jail, which she says is "a necessary evil but doesn't have to be a painful evil."
Mullins and former Tribune photographer Crystal Lauderdale produced the June video as part of an ongoing series called "Not My Job," where Mullins worked a range of different jobs for a day. In this case, he worked an overnight shift as mug shot photographer at the Orient Road Jail. Marshall-Jones served as tour guide for the video.
She calls prisoners "not a well organized crowd, but they are there to get through it and go home." Speaking of the booking room at the jail, she says, "It's been called an airport. It's been called Walt Disney World. On days it can be that entertaining."
Marshall-Jones has resigned from her position. A series of local and state investigations are probing an incident where Marshall-Jones is seen on a video dumping a quadriplegic man, Brian Sterner of Riverview, to the floor in the booking room.
