ST. PETERSBURG -- Thieves broke into a mausoleum at Royal Palm Cemetery, smashed two glass compartments and stole two urns containing cremated human remains, police said.
The burglary was reported to police Tuesday and is thought to have occurred within a few days of the report, said St. Petersburg Police Department spokesman Bill Proffitt.
The exterior of the mausoleum at 101 55th St. S. also was vandalized, police said. Somebody removed two bronze plaques and several flower containers affixed to a wall.
