TALLAHASSEE - Bob Minnix is the latest of former Florida State athletic director Dave Hart's senior staff to leave in the aftermath of an academic cheating scandal that has triggered an overhaul within the department. Minnix, FSU's senior associate athletic director for compliance for 13 years, will become a senior associate AD at Washington State.
Washington State AD Jim Sterk announced Minnix's hiring Feb. 13, the day FSU completed its internal investigation into the cheating scandal that involves more than 50 student-athletes. Minnix, a Washington native who earned a law degree from the University of Washington in 1975, did not return a call Wednesday.
Minnix's departure has been expected for the past few months as the cheating scandal expanded, and Florida State president T.K. Wetherell overhauled most of the senior staff.
"He brings a wealth of experience and a tremendous knowledge of intercollegiate athletics that will benefit our staff, coaches and student-athletes," Sterk said in a statement.
FSU COMMITMENT: Tallahassee Leon linebacker C.J. Mizell verbally committed to FSU on Wednesday, making him the fourth player to commit in the 2009 recruiting class. Mizell joins Madison County DT Jacobbi McDaniel, Tallahassee Godby WR Willie Downs and Tallahassee Rickards DB Jajuan Harley as oral commitments, providing the Noles early momentum of regaining a grip on their home turf.
"Schools that have great recruiting classes, they lock up their home base," FSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said on National Signing Day. "That's what we've got to do."
