Suspect Arrested In Pinellas Big Lots Robbery

TAMPA The man shown on video taking cash from a safe at a Big Lots store in Seminole was arrested today and linked to other robberies in the area, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Roberto Serrano, 26, of 223 Melody Lane, Largo, was charged with two counts of armed robbery with a firearm, one count of grand theft shoplifting and one count of first-degree armed robbery, the sheriff's office said.

Detectives said Serrano was the suspect shown on a video taking money from the Big Lots store at 7600 Starkey Road in Seminole on Feb. 8 and accidentally shooting a gun into the floor near his foot.

Serrano also acknowledged to detectives a role in robbing two Pinellas Family Dollar stores in March and October of 2007, the sheriff's office said.

Serrano was being held today in Pinellas County Jail with bail set at $130,000.
