TAMPA - The University of South Florida's inability to secure Raymond James Stadium the first week in December apparently cost the Bulls the chance to play a nationally televised home game.
However, USF will be a fixture on ESPN's Thursday night telecasts.
USF's 2008 schedule, obtained by the Tribune through a public records request, contains at least three ESPN appearances during Big East play, including two Thursday night games, one of which is the school's first home Thursday night game.
The Big East hoped to schedule the USF-Rutgers game for Thursday, Dec. 4, on ESPN, but a contract giving exclusive use of Raymond James Stadium to the Atlantic Coast Conference for its title game forced the USF game to another date. The game will be played Saturday, Nov. 15, and is not scheduled for ESPN, though that could change. The Big East will release its entire schedule Monday.
USF opens Big East play at home against Pittsburgh on Thursday, Oct. 2, on ESPN. The Bulls also will have a coveted Thursday night ESPN slot when they visit Cincinnati on Oct. 30.
