Only in the Blogosphere could an anonymous posting by a cranky Starbucks barista produce a debate over whether "skinny" is the newest politically incorrect word.
But such is the case after a New York coffee server authored a lengthy posting about Starbucks offending the masses - and setting up the company for potential lawsuits - by using the term "skinny" to identify some lower-calorie coffee drinks.
Give us a break. And pass us a skinny latte.
In no way, shape or form can the word "skinny" be construed as politically incorrect.
Barack Obama calls himself skinny. Skinny jeans were in style last year. Cool indie rock bands wear skinny ties.
And who doesn't like hearing the skinny at the water cooler?
Frankly, "skinny" is about the only descriptor on the Starbucks menu we actually understand.
It means that when we want our coffee drinks made with non-fat milk, sugar-free syrup and sans whipped cream, all we have to do is say "skinny." But mind you, the drinks still have 90 to 130 calories a pop.
Skinny away, Starbucks. We're not offended.
