RALEIGH, N.C. - Matt Cullen scored twice and Eric Staal had the go-ahead score late in the second period to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Washington Capitals 6-3 on Saturday.
Erik Cole added a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who maintained their hold on the Southeast Division lead by winning at home for the sixth time in seven games. Staal also had two assists, while recently acquired defenseman Joe Corvo scored his first goal with Carolina since coming over in a trade from Ottawa earlier this month.
Andrew Ladd also scored for Carolina, who are well-positioned to increase their division lead with five of their next six games at the RBC Center.
Mike Green, Alexander Semin and Brooks Laich scored goals for the Capitals, who led 2-1 after the first period before the Hurricanes pushed ahead for good. Alexander Ovechkin had three assists.
Carolina's power play certainly did its part, scoring once in the first period and twice more in a 3-minute span early in the second.
