NEW PORT RICHEY -- Pasco County sheriff's detectives are investigating an armed robbery that happened at a drugstore just before 1:30 today.
A man with a small-caliber handgun held up the pharmacy at 10401 Little Road, demanding prescription drugs, according to sheriff's office spokesman Doug Tobin.
He is described as 20 to25 years old, 6 feet tall, 225 pounds and clean shaven. He was last seen running west on Jasmine Boulevard and was wearing a black baseball cap, green-and-white shirt and black shorts.
Surveillance cameras caught images of the man.
Schraeder Elementary, Bayonet Point Middle School, Fox Hollow Elementary and Bishop Larkin Catholic School went into lockdown as a precaution. The schools were expected to dismiss students at the regular time.
Deputies think the assailant had a car stashed near the drugstore, ran there and then drove away.
Police dogs tracked the suspect behind the store, where the trail abruptly ended, possibly indicating he got into a car, according to Tobin.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Detective Kevin Macomber at 1-800-854-2862, Ext. 7462.
