No Burping, Just Shaking Of Pastry Container

Published: February 27, 2008

Joyce Miles of Lake Placid wrote a few weeks back in search of a pastry recipe created years ago by Tupperware.

"You were to put the mixture into one of their covered bowls and shake it," she wrote.

"As a former Tupperware dealer, I still have the recipe for the pie crust," writes Sandra Giegerich of Sebring. "It is very good and so easy to make."

She also sent along a Tupperware hot chocolate recipe.

"When I was a teenager at Fort Monmouth, N.J.," writes Diane Sloan Bradley of Tampa, "my best friend's (Kathy Harris) mother would make the BEST sweet potato cake with chocolate frosting."

Bradley thinks her friend's parents, who originally were from South Carolina, are living in Tampa.

"I have looked everywhere - even bought a sweet potato cookbook but have never found a recipe for a two-layer sweet potato cake with chocolate frosting," she writes. "I am now 55 years old and haven't had it since I was 16 or 17 and a student at Monmouth Regional High School."

We'll see if anyone out there can help, Diane.

Call For Cookies

In December, Rita Swanson of Clearwater read an interview with actress Amanda Bynes in USA Weekend magazine in which she spoke of baking pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for the holidays. The cookies were made with pumpkin from a can in place of using flour.

"I have looked everywhere for this recipe," Swanson wrote." Can you and your readers help?"

We found lots of recipes, including the one below we saw at YumSugar.com, but they all called for flour. We would ask Bynes, but we're not in her My Circle on Alltel.

Can anyone help Rita?

Chicken Request

"As a teenager, I remember the wonderful Milian's fried chicken," e-mails B. Karup of Tampa. "The restaurant was on Florida Avenue and Lake Avenue. I would like to enjoy it again, if you can find the recipe."

Garlic Jelly Time

"My mom lives in Candler, N.C.," writes Ed Lindberg of Tampa. "Every time we go, we stop at the Ashville Farmers Market to stock up on all the goodies you can't get down here (too many to list).

"At the Coates Brothers stand, they have an amazing selection of jams, jellies, honey, veggies, etc. They have garlic, onion, pepper and mint jellies, all in 8-ounce jars, so I have to buy a case of 12 of the garlic to tide me over. (It never does!) This is good on meat, corn on the cob (really!), sandwiches, etc."

Lindberg says he doesn't get up to Candler very often, so he would like to make garlic jelly here.
