TAMPA - TAMPA - At a news conference this afternoon, Largo lawyer John Trevena plans to reiterate his request that a special prosecutor be appointed to review abuse and excessive force complaints made by jail inmates against the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Trevena said he is representing Paul C. King, 40, who says he was abused by deputies at Orient Road Jail in July. They will answer reporters' questions at 1 p.m. at Trevena's office.
"Paul King is the latest victim to surface in a widening scandal," Trevena said.
Trevena suggested the allegations should fall under federal oversight as civil rights violations and that a class-action lawsuit might be a viable option given the expanding number of complaints.
