Sure Florida had a tough 2007. The housing market hit the skids. Insurance premiums rose out of sight. And the run-up in property taxes continued to sock new homebuyers.
Now, here we are in the first week of the New Year shivering from a blast of Arctic air.
But this is no winter of discontent.
To put things in perspective, consider Colorado, where thousands of drivers spent their holiday weekend stranded on Interstate 70 because of heavy snow. Or look at Green Bay, Wis., where the Packers asked 300 people to help shovel snow at Lambeau Field before Sunday's game against Detroit. Or think of New England, which faces a shortage of road salt and sand because of heavy snowfalls.
Here in Florida, the sand's right where it belongs - on the beach, thank you very much.
Today, our thoughts go out to Florida farmers who have been struggling to keep their crops safe from frost.
The rest of us can take comfort in knowing that by the time we finish that second cup of cocoa this morning, a warming trend will be on the way.
