SHADY HILLS - A three-vehicle collision killed two young men and sent four other people to hospitals on New Year's Day.
Jason D. Parmenter, 24, of Monteverde, and his passenger, Aaron J. Carrol, 23, of Clermont, died at the scene of Tuesday's State Road 52 and Shady Hills Road accident, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Parmenter was driving a 2003 Kia east on S.R. 52 in a no-passing zone when he crossed the centerline in an attempt to pass slower vehicles and clipped the front of a westbound Toyota FJ Cruiser, a highway patrol report states.
Kenneth Emerson, 53, of Aripeka, was westbound on S.R. 52 on a 2001 Harley-Davidson near the Toyota. His motorcycle flipped and skidded down the road, tossing him off. He landed in the westbound lane, according to the highway patrol.
Emerson was flown by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where he was listed in fair condition Wednesday.
The occupants of the Toyota - Crystal Achinelli, 42; her husband, Charles, 44; and Camille Achinelli, 14, all of Land O' Lakes - were taken to area hospitals.
Crystal Achinelli was listed in fair condition and her husband in good condition Wednesday. Neither the hospital where Camille was taken nor her condition was clear.
