GAINESVILLE - University of Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey will skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft, Gators coach Urban Meyer confirmed Thursday evening.
"Derrick has informed the coaching staff of his decision to enter the NFL draft," Meyer said in a statement. "We appreciate his effort and dedication to the Gator program and we wish him the best of luck."
Harvey, a fourth-year junior who briefly contemplated leaving after his three-sack performance in the national title game last year, applied for an evaluation from the NFL's draft advisory council last month. He told ESPN on Thursday that he was projected as a first-round draft choice. Harvey led the Gators this season with 8.5 sacks.
Harvey's roommate, receiver/tight end Cornelius Ingram, remained undecided Thursday as to whether he would enter the draft. Ingram, also a fourth-year junior, caught 34 passes for 508 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
