A blind and disabled Tampa woman was beaten and robbed in her home early Friday and two people have been charged with the crime.
Police said Jimmie L. Williams Jr., 44, and Aiesha J. Williams, 29, went to the victim's home at 102 1/2 Ross Ave. at 4:30 a.m. to collect $25 they said was owed to them by the woman's former roommate.
When Rebecca D. Ethridge, 48, opened the door, she thought it was somebody else because she is legally blind and disabled, police said.
The Williamses walked inside and wouldn't leave; they beat the woman and stole a phone, police said. Ethridge suffered minor injuries.
Officers found the suspects at the Salvation Army facility at 1514 N. Florida Ave., where Jimmie Williams is a desk clerk.
Police said Aiesha Williams told them she beat the victim. Both suspects were charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, aggravated battery with great bodily harm and grand theft. They remained in Orient Road Jail late Friday. No bail had been set.
