Game type: Third-person adventure and real-time strategy
Kind of like: "Command and Conquer," except that you're one of the units too.
Best feature: You can be whichever unit you wish at any time.
Worst feature: Waiting for mission explanations to finish can be tedious.
The bottom line: "Battalion Wars 2" is the second attempt by Nintendo to realize the dream of playing a real-time strategy game while also playing as one of the units on the field.
You command a force of different units. You might have ordinary grunts mixed in with bazooka troopers, flamethrower operators, light tanks and in later missions, planes and ships.
Much like in a traditional RTS game, you select units and then point at what you want them to attack. Pointing is easier than ever because of the Wiimote.
However, you're in one of the units as well. You can run around and do whatever you want while the battle rages.
For example, you can tell your tanks to begin blasting an enemy machine gun nest. Meanwhile, you're a grunt, flanking the nest from another direction and charging in during the confusion.
You can switch and be part of any unit any time you want. That's one of the things that makes the game a lot of fun.
Obviously strategy is key, because different units are vulnerable to different sorts of enemies. For example, tanks are great against machine gun nests, but need to show some respect toward enemy bazooka troopers.
